What counts as a verified trend?
A trend means a measured change over time, within a defined market and using comparable data. More available flavours or a striking headline is not, by itself, proof of increasing sales, consumption or market share. Every quantitative trend should name its country, dates, data source, population and metric.
Historical consumption evidence
EFSA published a European survey in 2013 reporting that approximately 68% of surveyed adolescents aged 10–18 had consumed energy drinks. This is a historical survey estimate, not the current prevalence in 2026; a newer comparable survey would be required to measure change. Its sampling and definitions matter before extrapolating to an individual country.
Product consumption and caffeine exposure are not interchangeable measures. A larger can can raise the caffeine dose even if concentration per 100 ml stays the same; EFSA's serving examples are illustrative rather than a time series.

Regulatory developments
The European Parliamentary Research Service documented national approaches to restricting sales to minors in its December 2025 briefing. EU labelling rules separately require specified high-caffeine beverages to display a warning. National restrictions vary by country, product definition and age threshold, so a statement about a particular market requires its current legal text.
A policy announcement, a proposed law and a rule already in force are different events. Record both the publication date of the source and the effective date of the measure when describing a change.

Formulations and product formats
Sugar-containing versus sugar-free and caffeine-containing versus caffeine-free are useful category distinctions, as are container volume and caffeine dose per package. A market-wide claim such as 'sugar-free drinks are growing fastest' needs a comparable sales or production dataset; the sources on this page do not establish that ranking.
To build a future trend series, record variant definition, geography, sales volume or value, observation dates and coverage. Keep reformulations separate from truly new products and avoid inferring global growth from one retailer or one country.

What this page cannot claim yet
No current, comparable multi-year market dataset is published here. This page therefore does not assign a global growth rate, leading flavour or dominant 2026 variant. When a verifiable dataset is added, its baseline, unit, coverage, methodology and revision date should accompany each result.
